Rebecca and Katherine Finally Meet!

For those of you who read my blog regularly, you will notice my friend Katherine from Charlotte, North Carolina who comments regularly! I 'met' Katherine online about 3 years ago. I had read her blog and was really surprised by all our common interests! So I sent her an email saying something like "this might sound crazy, but I think you're my long lost twin!" Katherine and I ended up becoming real pen pals, and wrote to each other on a nearly daily basis for over 3 years. When we first started writing each other, Katherine had just given birth to her firstborn son, John, and I was newly pregnant with Leo. It was really neat to have a friend and mentor who was a few steps ahead of me on my motherhood journey!

A few weeks ago, Katherine's husband was in the Boston area on business. Katherine and the children were planning on coming with him, but the children came down with the stomach flu, so they decided to stay home. Chris still came since he was due out here on business, so Ben and I got to meet him! We spent an entire day with him showing him around our community (see previous blog entry for pictures, etc.) I was really disappointed that I didn't get to meet Katherine and the kids! But it turned out that Chris needed to return on business a few weeks later, so Katherine and the kids were able to join him for his second trip!

Katherine, Chris, and the kids stayed at one of the guest houses at the Abbey on Saturday night, and then moved to a hotel that was closer to where Chris needed to be for business.

We met them at the Abbey on Saturday to give them a tour and to help get them settled in their rooms. While we were waiting for them to arrive, we got Leo suited up in his snow-gear for some sledding at the Abbey. I opted to stay inside of the Abbey and drink hot cocoa with Jules strapped to me :-)

Katherine's daughter, Mary Genevieve (15 months), meeting Jules (10 months) for the first time...

On Saturday night, we all went to a restaurant for dinner. We had about as much fun as 4 adults can have with 4 children under the age of 4 :-) ...

Then on Sunday we met for Mass and got a tour of the Center...

I made dinner for everyone at our house on Sunday evening, and the adults enjoyed some excellent conversation while the children played in the playroom...

At the end of our dinner, Katherine's son John (age 3), took a picture of us. It was intended to be just a photo of the adults, but Jules wouldn't let me put him down without crying! Didn't the picture come out well? So here we all are from a 3 year-old's perspective!

On Tuesday, my good friend Adrianne, hosted a playgroup at her house in honor of Katherine's visit. We had lots of fun! Katherine and I spontaneously decided to head into Boston (which is about an hour away) to take the kids to the Children's Museum. The Children's Museum was having an exhibit on Curious George...

There was also an exhibit at the Children's Museum on the show "Arthur." Part of the exhibit was a special screen that enabled the children to appear as though they were on the show. Below, if you look closely (click on the picture to enlarge it), you can see John and Jules on the TV screen!

It was so, so, so wonderful to finally meet Katherine! It is almost eerie how much we have in common! I hope this is just the start of getting to see her more!

You can also view Katherine's blog for more pictures, and for her account of our meeting!

It was so much fun to meet Rebecca in person! We really are like long lost twins. I can't wait to go back to Boston now.
