When I took the boys to the Ecotarium in Worcester for their "Fun Free Friday," both boys really seemed to like the train ride. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that both of our boys are obsessed with "choo choo trains" these days.
I had recalled an old co-worker of mine telling me that she had taken her son to an event called "Day Out with Thomas" where he actually got to ride Thomas the tank engine. I thought that that was something my boys might really enjoy, so I googled it, and it just so happened that Thomas was in Massachusetts THIS weekend! Ben agreed that it was something the boys might really enjoy, especially Leo, so we made a decision to celebrate Leo's 3rd birthday a few weeks early (his real birthday is September 25th), and surprise him by taking him to go SEE and RIDE the REAL Thomas the tank engine (whose programing he is very familiar with)!
Leo woke up to us singing Happy Birthday, and then we told him where we were going. I wish I had had my video camera rolling so you could see his facial expression. He was SO EXCITED!
Before we boarded the train, we went on some rides. I took Leo on his first Ferris Wheel ride, which he LOVED! Ben took him on a Dumbo ride (see photo below), and then the Tilt 'a Whirl which we couldn't believe he loved also...
I took Leo on a kiddie roller coaster ride which he somewhat enjoyed...it was small beans compared to the "big boy rides" - a.k.a. the Ferris Wheel and the Tilt 'a Whirl.
While we were waiting to board Thomas, Ben posed for some pictures with Leo in front of some old trains...
And then it was time to board Thomas!
All Aboard!
The train ride lasted about 20 minutes and was really fun. The conductor came around to punch tickets and they played the Thomas themed music in the background throughout the train ride.
After our train ride, we stopped for some lunch. The park had live children's entertainment, including a children's singer who was really great at getting the audience involved. (Just ask Ben who was asked to go up to the microphone and pretend to snore during one of the songs! I DID manage to get this on video, but Blogger is making it hard for me to upload videos, so I will try to update this post later with the video!)
The park also had a really nice playground for the younger children, and some go carts for the toddlers which Leo really enjoyed.
On our way back to the parking lot, we stopped in the museum section of the park and Ben taught Leo how to operate an electric toy train.
Leo is really into wooden train sets, and we had a hard time pulling him away from this one!
HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY LEO! WE LOVE YOU!

I hope you got the ticket when they were on Groupons. We are planning to use ours when it is decorated at Christmas time. Looks like we will have tons of fun!!!
Hi, Rebecca:
It's Mary Anne Letourneau from New Bedford. Bob, Ben, John and I went to Edaville to ride on Thomas this time last year! We had alot of fun. Ben also really liked the Tilt-a-Whirl. Dad Bob limped off looking greenish white in color. He had to sit down with his head between his knees and see the chiropractor first thing the next day. His chiropractor made him swear off tilt-a-whirls! It comes with age, I guess.
I really enjoyed seeing your photos and bringing back memories!
What a fabulous third birthday celebration! I love how you kept it close family and did something the boys would really like.
