Easter appears to be an eventful day for our family. Last year my water broke on Easter Sunday, and Jules was born shortly after. This year Leo nearly broke his finger.
Up until that point, the day had been going very well. It began with Easter Sunday Mass, 80 degree weather, and an idyllic Easter egg hunt at our church after Mass.

We then travelled to my mother's (a.k.a. "Grandma Jeannie") house to celebrate the April birthdays - Ben's father (April 12th), Jules (April 13th), and my Aunt Lise (April 14th). It was nice to have Peter (Ben's dad) and Josie (Ben's sister) participate in the festivities. My mother cooked leg of lamb, roasted asparagus, and some incredible bread and potatoes. The boys spent some time playing in the sunshine and enjoying the weather.
Ben's sister Josie hand-blew a glass coffee mug for her father as a birthday gift...
We just gave him some gourmet belgian waffle mix (I am blushing in embarrassment)...

When it was time for cake, Ben brought Leo back inside, but the storm door slammed hard on Leo's thumb, causing him to scream really loudly in pain (understandably!) All of us were getting bloody passing the poor child back and forth, and upon closer examination we could see that the nail was almost entirely off. Uncle Bob, a retired orthopedic surgeon, suggested that we take Leo to the emergency room. We listened to his advice, and we were pleased that we were seen nearly immediately upon arrival.
I stayed in the waiting room with Jules while Ben went into the examining room with Leo. The nurse said that it might traumatize Jules to hear all of the screaming, so I listened to her advice and sat twiddling my thumbs in the waiting room trying to entertain a cranky baby who desperately wanted to crawl away. There was a gentleman in the waiting room with me who could tell I was nervous, and he started making small talk with me. In the background we could hear Leo screaming bloody murder as the doctor pulled out his entire fingernail. I felt ill. But afterwards, Ben assured me that Leo was more angry and scared than he was hurt, and that the majority of the screaming was actually him protesting while the nurse tried to put a bandage on his hand.
When we finally got home, Leo was given the royal treatment. Ice cream, television, and all of the snuggling with mommy and daddy that he wanted. He was very brave, and it was awfully cute how he reenacted the entire day in a charade-like manner. Leo will need to have a bandage on his thumb for the next few weeks until the nail grows back, but he should be feeling better soon.
Despite the catastrophic ending, it was a very nice day!

Oh, poor little dear! That must have been awful. I'd have felt ill too. It would be really cute if you could catch a video clip of him acting out the incident in charades.
Rebecca how terrible! I am so glad he is ok, but of course you felt sick! I think any mother would. I hope next Easter is a little less eventful in your household! Loved the pictures too.
