Holy Saturday

On Saturday our friend Amy (engaged to our friend Teddy) converted to the Catholic faith in a private ceremony. We were truly honored to be chosen as her godparents. Amy made her profession of faith in front of Teddy, Ben, myself, our children, a priest, and 3 witnesses. The ceremony was an old version in Latin, that is most likely very similar to how the first catechumens were brought into the Catholic Church once it had been organized. The ceremony is long, which is probably one of the reasons the post-conciliar Church modified it so much (much to my personal dismay), but our children were remarkably well-behaved throughout it. I can honestly say that bearing witness to this event is something I will remember for the rest of my life. It was clear to all of us that we were witnessing something truly monumental. Welcome home, Amy. May God continue to bless you, and may Our Lady keep you close to her heart forever.

The traditional rite begins outside of the chapel, in the vestibule, to signify that the catechumen is not yet a member of the Church...

Once inside the chapel, Amy was conditionally baptized and made a profession of faith...

This picture was taken right after the ceremony...it's official!

Congratulations to your friend! Seeing her photos gave me warm fuzzies because that is the exact same ceremony I went through (conditional baptism, confirmation, general confession--while all my friends and family waited in the church!!!--and first holy communion).
