Community Garden Project

Today our community garden club came to plant a garden for us with three raised beds! They supplied all of the materials and came ready and eager to work at 9:00 a.m. this morning. By 1:00 p.m. we had a beautiful garden (though I had to leave in the middle of it to take a whiny 2 year old and the newborn home for naps). I can't wait to go back to the house to snap pics of the end result!

I thought the name of this product was funny: "Chickity Doo Doo - Organic Fertilizer" :-)

And here's one of my little "Chickities" helping...

Big brother Leo had no interest and would rather ride his tricycle around the property...

The man in the red jacket is named George. He's our farming consultant and will be helping us until I'm completely comfortable on my own.

In the beds will be...

Lettuce
Radishes
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Spinach
Kale
Chard
Cabbage
Carrots
Onions
Various Herbs
Bell Peppers...

...and that's just to name a few! I am SO excited! Growing my own food has been a longtime goal of mine, so today truly felt like a dream come true!

The community garden club even supplied fencing to help keep critters (and toddlers) away from our crops!

I'll be posting more pics as our garden grows, so stay tuned! I can't wait to share all of our successes and failures (though I'm hoping there won't be too many of those with George's help!)

Update: Ben just sent me the following picture of the end result from his phone...

Community gardening help?! For free?! I'm shocked, amazed and in awe! That's just wonderful!!!

You'll have a great time with the kids in learning to garden.

You haven't even moved in yet, and already you are reaping the rewards/blessings of such a good choice and faithful living. :)
