Sledding Party

Speaking of making the most of Winter...

This past weekend, we hosted a sledding party at our house!

Our house is perpendicular to one of the best sledding hills in the area, so we thought it would be fun to have our friends over to take part in the winter fun.

The men took the children sledding, and the moms enjoyed coffee and hot cocoa in our living room, while we engaged in delightful conversation, all while watching our husbands having a grand old time sledding down the hill with the children.

After the sledding was over, the families joined us for some cocoa and homemade snacks back at the house.

So how's that for some good 'ol fashioned fun to help me reach my goal of finding joy during a New England Winter?

The star of the show was the lovely wooden toboggan Grandma Jeannie & Jimmo gave the boys for Christmas. Mr. McF helped the boys open it since we thought it would be best for them to open it on the day of their first sledding adventure, versus opening it on Christmas Day when they wouldn't have known what to do with it...or perhaps they would've known what to do with it, and we'd be spending lots of time trying to explain to 2 little boys (not yet of the age of reason) why we can't use the sled at this very moment.

So as promised, Grandma, here are the pics. It was the fastest sled on the hill, and the boys (and their friends!) couldn't be more pleased. It even has our family's surname engraved on it!

Don't let their facial expressions fool you. They were just clueless as to what this strangely-shaped piece of wood was for...once they figured it out, their laughter could be heard all the way from the hill to our house.

That is my kind of sledding party: the kind at which my kids have fun while I stay warm and dry.
