May Procession

Today our church held its annual May Procession after Mass.  I'm pleased to report that this year we couldn't have had better weather!  It was a perfect Spring day.  We couldn't help but remember last year's May Procession which was held on one of the rainiest days of the year! Nevertheless, there was something absolutely beautiful about watching so many faithful pilgrims honor Our Lady despite the rain.  Click here to view the slideshow of last year's procession, which will give you a better idea of how beautiful our May Procession is (and yes, those are the voices of the Sisters and Brothers singing in the background!  Yes, we're spoiled!).

Below are some photos and video footage I took of this year's May Procession, and the perfect weather which accompanied it:

Below is a picture of my new friend Deirdre.  She was too cute not to photograph :-)

And baby Benjamin dressed up for the occasion.  Doesn't he look handsome in his bow tie?

Chrissy, I snapped this shot of Joe holding Naomi.  I can email you the original if you'd like :-)

Meet Gina, the Sisters new watchdog.  Gina is a Neapolitan Mastiff. According to Wikipedia, "the breed dates back to about 168 BC. This massive breed is often used as a guard and defender of family and property due to their protective instincts and their fearsome appearance. The breed is reported to have been used for fighting against Lions in the Colosseum and other ancient Roman arenas."

In other words, BEWARE OF DOG!

As always, this year's May Procession ended with a BBQ behind the convent.  The adults socialized while the children (and there were LOTS of them) played on the beautiful grounds. Leo fell asleep on the grass in the sun.  Mom and dad enjoyed great food and conversation.

Our day today could only be described as a little slice of heaven :-)

Oh, I just love crisply dressed altar boys. They are precious.

I remember how confused I was attending the first annual picnic of my traditionalist Catholic parish when I was newly converted. There were exponentially more children than adults present. I couldn't figure it out. Was it some kind of daycare? Then I realized that these parents were actually having MORE than one or two kids each. When you have six, ten kids per copule, there are many more kids than adults! Ha ha!
