As a member of the Catholic Company's reviewer program, I am asked to review an item on my blog every few months. I chose to review The Beauty of Grace - 2009 Calendar of Indulgences because I didn't know too much about indulgences and was curious to learn more about them. This calendar is a wonderful teaching tool. If you're a Catholic who would like to take the opportunity to take advantage of indulgences but have a difficult time keeping track of all the different opportunities to do so, this calendar will solve your problem. Another bonus is that the calendar explains a dozen different apologetics topics. My one criticism is the layout of the calendar. The boxes for each day in which one would be able to write family engagements are very small. If one has a large family and/or lots of appointments, they will have a difficult time using this calendar as their main place for recording family engagements. The font is also very small and hard to read. So while the amount of information listed on the calendar is indeed thorough, it takes away from the amount of room to actually record things on the calendar. That said, if you're someone who doesn't mind not having a lot of room to record engagements on your calendar and want to learn more about the world of indulgences and other aspects of the Catholic faith, I would recommend this calendar. For those of you busy bodies out there, I would recommend a different calendar. The Catholic Company has plenty to choose from. My personal recommendation would be the "Mom's Manager 2009" since it features large grids for planning. Hurry! The Catholic Company only has 2 left!
