A few of you emailed me and asked me how my training is going, so I thought I'd post about it for all to see! For those of you who don't already know, my application was accepted by the American Academy of Husband-Coached Childbirth, and I am currently training to become a birthing instructor teaching The Bradley Method of natural childbirth. As you can imagine, I am very excited! I am currently in the middle of the academic portion of my training which is very extensive. This portion of my training includes hospital evaluations, interviews, and tons of reading, writing and testing. My goal is to have all of my academic work submitted by October 1st. Then Ben and I will be going away for a 5 day training seminar where we'll be learning from some of the nation's top obstetricians. Leo will be accompanying us, and we have already made arrangements to make this possible. If all goes well, we should be certified and ready to teach in early October.Right now, in order to have the academic portion of my work completed by October 1st, I am devoting 3 hours a night to my studies. Ben has been very helpful in watching Leo during this time, though I usually try to begin my studying when Leo has fallen asleep. Last night I went to a nearby coffee shop to study while Ben watched Leo. For those of you interested, here is a list of some of the books I am reading:
...and those are only some of the books! Please keep me in your prayers!

Rebecca - I had no idea you were (on top of being a wife & mother, cooking meals and blogging) you were also studying to be a birthing instructor. I am so impressed with you and proud of your initiative!! I know you'll be good at it as you are good at everything you touch. much love, your very PROUD Aunt Cathy xoxox
How thrilling! I would just love to be studying those books!
Katherine,
The one by Ina May is pretty good. The first section of the book is devoted to women telling very positive natural birth stories. Have you ever come across the stats for the Farm? Very impressive. Here's a glimpse:

Even taking into account the self-selection of women birthing at The Farm, those statistics are amazing. They loudly prove a point about the medical model of care in hospitals.
I'm praying for you Rebecca. I remember when you were just thinking about this. My how it has taken off.
