Gardens - June 2012

Just for fun I thought I'd post some pictures of my garden(s). This is only my second year gardening, so I'm still very much an amateur, but it's a hobby I've really come to enjoy.

Perennial garden in the front of the house...

Our lovely neighbors were generous to dig up and divide some of their perennials with us, and Auntie Josie was kind enough to plant them for us! That was a few months ago, and they continue to thrive!

Here's a recent photo of the perennial garden...

My goal was to go heavy on the purple to compliment the color of our house (which is yellow with a purple door and shutters).

Red geraniums and purple petunias line the main entrance...

View of the backyard...the very back has not been hayed yet...I see the tractors out daily now with barrels of hay, so I think they will do the first cut of our field soon!  That's exciting, because it means the portion of our property in which the boys can run around triples!

Sugar Snap Peas, Spinach, Lettuce, Onions, Broccoli...

Close up of the Peas...they should be ready to be picked this weekend!

This year I have NINE different varieties of gourmet lettuce growing!  Last year I ate salads every day during gardening season, so this year I made sure to plant a lot of lettuce and to stagger it, so I'll have a plentiful harvest all summer long...isn't it beautiful?  I almost don't want to pick it!

SIX different varieties of bell peppers! Purple, Yellow, Flamingos, Ace, Green...I don't remember them all!

Lots of Basil...yummy!

Tomato Garden #1...Cherry Tomatoes, Yellow Cherry Tomatoes (my favorite), Sauce & Beefsteak.

I'm very proud of my monster garlic I planted in the Fall!  I plan to dig up my first bulb this weekend when I make leg of lamb...there is also some Rosemary and Lemon Thyme growing next to it which I'll use to season the lamb.

Close up of the garlic, because I'm very proud of it!

More tomatoes, more basil...

Cucumbers & Beans...

Orange Dahlia's...they were dying, but I was able to revive them by moving them to a different location in the yard...
