Last night we got hit with another Nor' Easter, so we were snowed in AGAIN. Poor Ben had just gotten through hours of shoveling when the storm hit! We are buried in snow. Nevertheless, we were determined to make our day productive! Today we spent 8 hours decluttering and cleaning the house. We filled 2 large garbage bags with trash, and filled several large garbage bags with things to give away.
I tackled the upstairs closets. Leo is now in 6-9 month sized clothing (yes, you heard me correctly...that was not a typo!) So first I put all of his 3-6 month clothing in a bin and sent it down to the basement. I then set up his closet with all of his 6-9 month sized clothing. He now has a whole new wardrobe which makes it fun for me when I dress him up!
Then I did the inevitable. I got rid of all of my pre-mommy clothes. College party dresses, bubble gum pink T's, polka dot pajama pants...and then there were the 10 pairs of size 2 capri pants that I will probably never fit in again...
Getting rid of my pre-motherhood clothes was emotionally more difficult than I thought. It was hard to say goodbye to my 'LBD' (little black dress) and my turquoise hip-huggers. But one thing that made it easier for me was that I put them all in a big bag for Ben's college-aged sister to have. At least I know they'll be well-loved :-)
I looked to Missus Smarty Pants for help with purging my closet and for tips on how to establish the right wardrobe for my new lifestyle and body type. After I was done, I rewarded myself by buying an item which I really needed - a long A-line skirt from Land's End to wear around the house (thanks for the great suggestion, Katherine!)
Having organized closets with only clothes I can actually wear in them will make life a whole lot easier. Laundry will be easier, and mornings will be less chaotic. Ben went through his things too, and organized the office while I was tackling the closets. We also rearranged the living room. These were big steps for us in our mission to create a clutter-free home and a more serene household.

That's so great, Rebecca! This really will make it easier to get dressed in the morning. But, yes, I acknowledge that it is a very diffucult emotional task! You're entirely changing your skin!
I wish I'd read that before I just went through and put all my pre-maternity stuff away! I really should have purged a lot instead of storing them. Guess I'll have to do it when I pull them all out again.
I think Chrissy and I like alot of the same postings. I'm goint to read the Missus Smarty Pants web site and maybe that is what we can do tomorrow. I know there's alot of stuff she'll have me through out or give to charity. See you tomorrow.
