Amy's Baby Shower

On April 30th I hosted a baby shower for our godchild, Amy, who will be giving birth to another godchild of ours sometime this month!  (So does that make me some sort of honorary Great Godmother?  I think so!)

Teddy and Amy are dear friends of ours, and we're very much looking forward to the arrival of their first baby. Given my profession, I am naturally around lots of expectant mothers, and it's not uncommon for me to have an eMail in my inbox every other day of either a friend or a student or a friend-of-a-friend who just had a baby, is pregnant, or has a pregnancy or birth related question.

But Teddy and Amy's baby is extra special to me, I'll admit it. I'm super excited. Very excited. Like...keep checking my phone every 2 seconds hoping to get "the call" that it's a boy, it's a girl, that Amy's in labor....or something! I'm just so excited to meet this baby, and to see our dear friends become parents. And Jules is especially excited - you can see him talking to the baby and giving the baby kisses!

I attended an early Mass so I could set up for the shower. I made mini asparagus quiches, a garden salad, a large tortellini antipasto salad, and served lemonade and wine. I got the cake from a local homemade ice cream parlor, and it was absolutely delicious.

The little carriage was from one of Joni's dollhouses - a nice touch in a pinch, hey?

A good time was had by all. (You can click the picture to enlarge it - see, we're all smiling?) :-)

Despite the incident in the yard where Leo nearly drowned, which Ben can tell you about...a good time was had by all! The gentlemen did an excellent job of keeping this from me. Thank you for that (another post, perhaps, for "lessons in having a happy marriage" - do not tell your wife while she's trying to host a baby shower the drama occurring outside).

A funny thing occurred at the baby shower. One of the attendees' husband's had told her that Teddy & Amy were having a baby girl, so she showed up with a gift of all pink things that were clearly girly!  Teddy & Amy don't know what they're having, so this was really funny!  We don't know where G's husband got his information!  Anyway, to add to the humor, both Chrissy and I recalled how at our own first baby showers, a guest had made a similar "mistake."  Neither Chrissy nor I knew what we were having, but in Chrissy's case one of the guests brought a girl gift, and in my case, one of the guests brought a boy gift!  And you guessed it - Chrissy's first baby was a girl, and my first baby was a boy!  So perhaps G's "mistake" was actually a premonition! We shall see!

My guess is a boy, based on old wives tales and the size and shape of her belly. Just for fun, anyone want to guess?

You did a great job and I really enjoyed it!

I didn't know that Leo almost drowned! Yikes! Everyone seemed so non-chalant!

I feel like Amy looks like she's having a boy, but I can't help but feel it's a girl...maybe because I want Gabrielle to have a little playmate!
