Margaret Sanger's Eugenic Legacy: The Control of Female Fertility

Angela Franks, who received her doctorate from Boston College while I was a student there, recently published her first book entitled "Margaret Sanger's Eugenic Legacy: The Control of Female Fertility."  Her lecture was a presentation of her book, and it was brilliant.  Most people know Margaret Sanger as the woman who founded the organization which later became known as Planned Parenthood.  However, few people know that Margaret Sanger was an outspoken eugenicist.  From Wikipedia:

Sanger was a proponent of eugenics, a social philosophy that gained strong support in the United States in the early 20th century. The philosophy claimed that human hereditary traits can be improved through social intervention. Methods of social intervention (targeted at those seen as "genetically unfit") advocated by eugenists have included selective breedingsterilizationand euthanasia. In "A Plan for Peace" (1932), for example, Sanger argued for:

A stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.[13]

Sanger promoted the idea of "race hygiene" through "negative eugenics," an attempt to reduce the fertility of "dysgenic" groups. Sanger considered the unchecked multiplication of the "unfit" to be "the greatest present menace to civilization."[14] She suggested Congress set up a special department to study population problems and appoint a "Parliament of Population." One of the main objectives of the "Population Congress" would be "to raise the level and increase the general intelligence of population."[15]

I strongly encourage everyone to read Dr. Franks' book.  Also, please take a moment to watch this informative video about Planned Parenthood's deceptive and cruel practices.  And did I mention your tax dollars fund Planned Parenthood?

I have a terrible report I wrote in junior high school about Margaret Sanger. At the time I was all for her and wrote a glowing report about all that she contributed to society. Of course, my childish research didn't reveal what is so easily discovered about her disgusting motives.

Rebecca,

I would love to read this book! There is another book I saw recently that covers her eugenic beliefs and her support of Hitler etc. I regretted not getting it when I saw it.

You know I have tried to explain to my mom how Sanger was basically a Nazi (my mom is a STAUNCH abortion supporter) and my mom thinks I am making it up and that I am crazy....ironic considering my mom is Jewish and lost most of her family in Europe during WW2.

Jamie, I like the American Life League videos. They expose Planned Parenthood for what it really is, but are short and easy to watch. The one I shared in this blog entry is one of my favorites, but there are other ones on YouTube. Just do a search for "American Life League." For another shocker, check out this one:
